Resveratrol Sources: Grapes, Berries and Peanuts

 Natural Resveratrol Sources

There are several resveratrol sources in nature. The health benefits of this antioxidant are believed to be numerous. When used in high concentration, all of the Resveratrol sources are well known to impact the main mechanisms of aging.

Red grapes make available between 0.24 and 1.25mg per cup. The variation seems to depend on where they are grown. Boiled peanuts give between 0.35mg and 1.28mg. Yet again the variation seems to depend on where they were grown or the processing used to boil them. Nothing like what is found with berries; boiled peanuts have a higher concentration than raw ones. Peanut butter provides a very tiny amount. One would need to eat a whole cup to get a maximum of 0.13mg.

The benefits of berries as resveratrol sources may not be that great. But, cranberries, blueberries and bilberries provide other antioxidants that are beneficial to our health and it is important to include these types of fruit in our diets. Fresh blueberries have less than 10% of the resveratrol content found in grapes.
